There's no denying that Barnsley town centre has come on leaps and bounds over the past few years. New snazzy bars, swanky restaurants, and trendy coffee shops are aplenty. It's all looking very positive indeed, but there is a darker side to this regeneration exercise though if you care to look beyond the glitz and glamour of our new look Barnsley centre. Many scars of a bygone era remain for all to see. Pubs that were once packed to the rafters every weekend are now boarded up, and some larger retail units now appear to have their shutters indefinitely down.
Let's hope the scope of the Barnsley town centre regeneration strategy is all encompassing and tackles some of these unsightly blemishes in a timely manner.
